The general meeting of the Lake Conroe Area Republican Women (LCARW) was held January 19, 2012 at the Walden Yacht Club. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m., by the 2012 President, Janis Boulware. She welcomed everyone to the first meeting of 2012 and introduced the remaining new officers for the year: 1st Vice President, Programs, Pam Stewart; 2nd Vice President, Membership, Janie Ross; 3rd Vice President, Ways & Means, Sonya Clover; Treasurer, Jodi Grubb; Recording Secretary, Pat Bertotti; Corresponding Secretary, Barbara Hilton; PAC Treasurer, Carol Miller. The opening prayer was given by Carol Miller, who also led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American and Texas flags. Janis asked approval for the Minutes of the General Meeting held November 17, 2011 and the Treasurer’s Report, Ending Balance as of December 31, 2011 which were printed in the January newsletter. The Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved as written by unanimous affirmation. Janis presented the LCARW 2012 Budget which was distributed to the audience. A motion to approve the 2012 Budget was made by Miriam Burton, seconded by Luine Hancock and unanimously approved.
Janis introduced the head table which seated the speaking candidates. For U.S. House of Representatives, Kevin Brady and Larry Youngblood; For Texas Railroad Commission, Christi Craddick, Roland Sledge, and a representative for Barry Smitherman; For County Attorney, Gary Beauchamp, J.D. Lambright and Phyllis Rainey; For District Judge 9th Court, Kelly Case and Fred Edwards. She also introduced elected officials present in the audience. Janis announced there are Volunteer sign-up sheets on the registration tables in the back of the room for committees and for a new program -- thanking our soldiers via email correspondence. As LCARW is considered a PAC under government guidelines, it cannot donate anything of monetary value but can support soldiers with our words. LCARW directories are available. Janis noted LCARW currently has 115 active members and 30 associate (non-voting) members. The deadline to be included in the 2012 edition will be the end of February.
Janis explained how the Candidate Forum would be conducted. Each candidate had four minutes to speak and two minutes for questions from the floor. Doris Hickman, Immediate Past President of LCARW served as Moderator and Nancy Oughton, LCARW Awards Chair, served as time keeper. Each candidate was asked by the moderator to respond to several prepared questions. The remaining time was spent as determined by the candidate.
